4 Simple Self-Care Tactics for Students
Stress for university or college students is often caused by a combination of factors. From exams and assignments to problems with relationships and trying to balance a social life with studying, there are many important activities to juggle during this pivotal time. In some cases, stress is also related to moving away from home for the first time.
While it’s normal to experience stress every now again, it’s important that you know how to keep it under control. One of the most practical and effective approaches is to set aside some time for self-care. In this post, we share four simple self-care tactics you can try whenever you feel your tension levels rising.
1. Get some fresh air
One of the simplest steps you can take when feeling overwhelmed is to go outside. By spending time outdoors, you’ll have the opportunity to get some sunlight and take part in physical activities such as walking or jogging. These simple activities will increase the levels of endorphins in your body, spurring feelings of happiness and ease. You’ll also develop the ability to cope with higher levels of stress by adding physical exercise to your daily routine.
2. Take a break from technology
If you’re like most college students, then you probably check your phone first thing in the morning when you wake up. Throughout the day, you might spend hours scrolling through your social media feed or trying to take the perfect selfie to share with your followers. You might even begin to stress as you compare your life to that of others online. Fortunately, you can take a short hiatus to eliminate these negative feelings. By giving yourself some time away from technology, you’ll be able to connect with those around you and feel less stressed. 3. Get more sleep
Not getting enough sleep can also lead to increased stress and even depression. It can also contribute to poor concentration, which can impact your academics and ability to study. Avoid any electronics an hour before bed, as the blue light from the devices can disrupt your body’s internal clock. Make time every day to write down your thoughts on a piece of paper or on your phone’s note-taking app. Spend 10 minutes doing this every day, and you’ll release enough stress to focus on other things.
